McCray Lumber and Millwork FSC certification
As of July 2009, the McCray Lumber and Millwork Edwardsville, Kansas branch has been awarded Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain-of custody (CoC) certification from SmartWood, an independent third party auditor. FSC, the global benchmark for responsible forest management, ensures that FSC-certified wood comes from well managed forests. Chain-of-custody certification allows our customers straightforward access to FSC certified wood products for their green building, remodeling or commercial LEED projects. “From a customer perspective, the FSC label represents a promise that is being made. Chain of custody standards are the mechanism FSC has to ensure that ‘promise’ is delivered.” This ‘promise delivered’ means a credit earned under the materials and resources category when working on projects that will be registered with LEED and other green building programs. LEED certified projects we have already supplied include schools, historic renovations, and public works projects. We have helped those projects qualify under the MR5 and MR7 sections of LEED. FSC CoC must exist to qualify for points in both the LEED and several other programs. The FSC CoC is currently the only certification system recognized by most established green building programs, including LEEDTM - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. We continue to work with Rainforest Alliance to diversify our FSC-CoC product mix.
